Here's today's Final Jeopardy (in the category Former Currencies) for Monday, September 28, 2026 (Season 43, Game 11):
Introduced in 1663, this unit of currency got its name because the gold it was first minted with was from Africa's west coast
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today's Jeopardy! contestants:
Nikolas enters today's game as a 2-day champion with winnings of $40,001.
Andy's Pregame Thoughts:
Central Florida's Nikolas Polsinelli enters the week as a 2-day champion, going for victory #3 against Katie Bruns of Dayton, Ohio and Justin Robbins of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Of course, I have to point out the complete overt sexism of Orlando-news.com" who decided it necessary to feature in their article about Nikolas only the men of the area who have won recently, while completely ignoring Libby Jones's pair of victories from last December. Congratulations!

Correct response: What is the guinea?
More Information About Final Jeopardy!:
(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Originally with a value set at one pound (20 shillings), the guinea was minted between 1663 and 1814 in Great Britain and contained approximately one-quarter of a troy ounce of gold. The name "Guinea" comes from the fact that the west coast of Africa—known then as "Guinea"—provided the majority of the gold for the struck coins. The fluctuating price of gold relative to silver eventually caused fluctuations in the value of the guinea, but it was eventually set in 1717 at one poind one shilling. Following the Napoleonic Wars and the Great Recoinage of 1816, the pound became the major unit of currency, and the guinea coin itself was replaced by the sovereign. However, the term still exists in posh British circles, especially in the field of horses, with the term "guinea" being equivalent to 21 shillings (£1.05).
Being familiar with this story, I had no issues today coming up with the correct response to Final Jeopardy; we shall see how our players do.
Game Recap:
Nikolas Polsinelli had an opportunity to make up a 12-correct response deficit to Justin Robbins when he found both Daily Doubles in Double Jeopardy; however, an incorrect response on DD2 meant that Nikolas was just inside of 50% of Justin's score entering Final Jeopardy; Nikolas needed a correct response and a Justin miss in order to win game #3.
A correct response in Final Jeopardy did put that pressure on Justin, but Justin's screen also contained the correct response, which means we have a new Jeopardy! champion in Justin Robbins. Justin will return tomorrow to defend his title.
Scores going into Final:
Justin $19,600Nikolas $10,000
Katie $5,400
Tonight's results:
Katie $5,400 - $5,300 = $100 (What is the)Nikolas $10,000 + $10,000 = $20,000 (What is guinea?)
Justin $19,600 + $401 = $20,001 (What is guinea?) (1-day total: $20,001)
Game Stats:
Justin $20,600 Coryat, 27 correct, 3 incorrect, 49.12% in first on buzzer (28/57), 1/1 on rebound attempts (on 4 rebound opportunities)Nikolas $11,200 Coryat, 15 correct, 2 incorrect, 24.56% in first on buzzer (14/57), 1/1 on rebound attempts (on 5 rebound opportunities)
Katie $5,400 Coryat, 10 correct, 4 incorrect, 21.05% in first on buzzer (12/57), 1/2 on rebound attempts (on 3 rebound opportunities)
Combined Coryat Score: $37,200

Justin Robbins, to win:
2 games: 64.278%3: 41.317%
4: 26.557%
5: 17.071%
6: 10.973%
Avg. streak: 2.799 games.
Andy's Thoughts:
I am thinking that Nikolas having won 2 games at the age of 19 will potentially work in his favor for a possible Champions Wildcard pick; that being said, I do want to reiterate something that I said last night on Jeopartalk; 2 wins is not a guarantee of being invited, as there were 6 2-time champions in Season 41 who were not a part of Champions Wildcard in Season 42.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: Justin $19,600 Nikolas $10,000 Katie $5,400)
Nikolas: To have any chance of victory, you have to bet at iest $9,200. (Actual bet: $10,000)
Katie: Second place is still very much at play here for you; there's no need to bet any more than $4,599, as Nikolas has to bet at least $9,200 of his score to have any chance of victory. (Actual bet: $5,300)
Justin: Standard cover bet today is $401. (Actual bet: $401)
