Here's today's Final Jeopardy (in the category Transportation) for Monday, September 14, 2026 (Season 43, Game 1):

Bearing the name of an arthropod genus, this iconic vehicle first sold after WWII was designed by Italian engineer Corradino D'Ascanio

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today's Jeopardy! contestants:

Bryan Lee, a climate financial strategist originally from Falls Church, Virginia
Emily Mayo, a Broadway ads project manager from Brooklyn, New York
Matthew Riggle, a community college math instructor from Madison, Alabama

Matthew enters today's game as a 2-day champion with winnings of $64,400.

Andy's Pregame Thoughts:

Hello! Welcome to Season 43 of Jeopardy! and daily coverage of the show here at The Jeopardy! Fan. Back on July 24, Matthew Riggle became a 2-day champion; today, he goes for win #3, as we meet challengers Bryan Lee, originally from Falls Church, Virginia, and Emily Mayo of Brooklyn.

If you took the summer off, you should know that Season 4 of Jeopardy! Masters aired. You can catch up on Hulu in the United States and CTV On Demand / Crave in Canada. You probably also noticed that things look slightly different since I last saw you near the end of July. In August, I made the largest change to my website since December 2015 in that I have switched "content management systems" from WordPress to Labrador. Things may not look 100% right now, as I am still tweaking the look and feel of the website to look exactly how I want it to. If you see that something doesn't look right, tell me! (My contact information is on the About page.)

I should also note that there has been a slight change to the early airings of the show. WBBJ in Jackson, TN no longer airs the show at 11:00 AM Central; the airtime there has moved to 3:30 PM Central. While I will continue to publish at 9:00 AM Eastern for the sake of the regular readership that has developed a routine of coming to the page around that time, the show's first airing does not occur until 11:30 AM Central (12:30 PM Eastern), on KTRK in Houston, TX. Thus, results will not be posted until around shortly after 1:00 PM Eastern.

Correct response: What is the Vespa?

More Information About Final Jeopardy!:

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

In 1944, the designers of what became the Vespa scooter were unhappy with their design for what was then the MP5, and they consulted with aeronautical engineer Corradino D'Ascanio. Believing motorcycles to be dirty and unreliable, D'Ascanio made a number of changes to eliminate many of those issues, including mounting the engine directly behind the rear wheel, which allowed for the drive chain to be eliminated. When the MP6 prototype was unveiled, Enrico Piaggio (company founder) said, "Sembra una vespa!" ("It looks like a wasp!" in Italian)—and the name "Vespa" stuck. Sales of the Vespa took off outside of Italy after Audrey Hepburn rode one in Roman Holiday, and the company is still producing vehicles.

For me, I found this to be a relatively straightforward opening Final Jeopardy of the season, but one might need at least a passing interest in automotive brands in order to get this one. We shall see how it plays!

Game Recap:

Matthew Riggle came very close to having a big lead entering Final Jeopardy—one syllable, in fact. Instead, he sat second to Bryan Lee after a missed Daily Double, while Emily Mayo still was in score contention entering Final Jeopardy.

Final Jeopardy was a Triple Stumper, though, so it was good that Matthew was in second, as he took the win after a savvy wager in Final Jeopardy. He'll go for win #4 tomorrow.

Scores going into Final:

Bryan $15,600
Matthew $12,000
Emily $4,000

Tonight's results:

Emily $4,000 - $4,000 = $0 (What is a beetle?)
Matthew $12,000 - $3,999 = $8,001 (What is the Spyder?) (3-day total: $72,401)

Bryan $15,600 - $8,401 = $7,199 (What is a VW bug)

Game Stats:

Matthew $18,800 Coryat, 22 correct, 2 incorrect, 38.60% in first on buzzer (22/57), 1/1 on rebound attempts (on 2 rebound opportunities)
Bryan $19,400 Coryat, 25 correct, 3 incorrect, 45.61% in first on buzzer (26/57), 0/0 on rebound attempts (on 1 rebound opportunity)
Emily $4,000 Coryat, 6 correct, 0 incorrect, 10.53% in first on buzzer (6/57), 0/0 on rebound attempts (on 3 rebound opportunities)
Combined Coryat Score: $42,200

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Bryan $15,600 Matthew $12,000 Emily $4,000)

Matthew: Bet between $3,601 and $3,999 for your best chance of victory today. (Actual bet: $3,999)

Emily: You have to be correct to have a chance of victory; bet at least $3,200, but you might as well go all in. (Actual bet: $4,000)

Bryan: Standard cover bet is $8,401. (Actual bet: $8,401)
