Correct response: Who is Samuel Adams?

More Information About Final Jeopardy!:

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Samuel Adams, one of America's Founding Fathers, displayed a significant lack of business acumen; he entered the family malthouse business, but his lack of understanding of accounting responsibilities, among other issues, cause the business to close in the 1740s.

In a January 1771 letter that appeared in the Boston Gazette (and later in The Writings of Samuel Adams, collected and edited by Harry Alonson Cushing). Speaking of actions that a "true patriot" does, Adams wrote, "He will, as far as he is able, keep the attention of his fellow citizens awake to their grievances; and not suffer them to be at rest, till the causes of their just complaints are removed." Adams was seen as one of the foremost Americans who divided the country away from Britain and was one of the foremost leaders of the American Revolution. In the 1980s, his name was also used by the Boston Beer Company to name one of their lagers, drawing on the malt-making tradition of Adams's family.

Obviously, with one of the players being Canadian today, I think it might leave our American challengers today at a bit of an advantage here. We shall see, though!

Game Recap & Tonight's Game Stats:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Red To Be Read; From "A" To "Y"; Join The Club; 20th Century America; Big Things; Movie Sequel Subtitles)

Arjun got off to the best start in this one, thanks to a number of incorrect responses from both Adam and Rian. After 15 clues, the scores were Arjun $2,600 Adam $1,800 Rian $800.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Arjun 3 correct 0 incorrect
Adam 5 correct 3 incorrect
Rian 3 correct 2 incorrect

Today's interviews:

Adam has a sister who won on the show in 2018.
Arjun taught in Beijing, where his students threw a "trashion show".
Rian met his wife through curling.

Adam found the Daily Double, using it to propel himself into the lead through 30 clues. On the opening board, Adam got 3 in red books, 20th century America, big things, and movie sequels, while Arjun got 3 in From "A" to "Y".

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Adam 14 correct 4 incorrect
Arjun 5 correct 0 incorrect
Rian 5 correct 4 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Adam $5,800
Arjun $3,200
Rian $1,000

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Geographic Names; Faces; Diplomacy; Fossil Words; Science Adjectives; One-Season Wonders)

In a round where all three players held the lead at some point, it was the two challengers who found the two Daily Doubles, with both Arjun and Adam picking up extra money. As it stood, DD3 was enough to give Adam a slim lead entering Final Jeopardy. On the second board, Adam got 3 of the one-season TV shows, while Arjun got 3 in geographic names.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Adam 20 correct 6 incorrect
Arjun 13 correct 2 incorrect
Rian 13 correct 5 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 0 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Adam $11,700
Arjun $9,800
Rian $9,000

In what might be seen as a surprise in such an American-coded category, it was only the Canadian who picked up a correct response here! That allowed Rian to move from third to first in come-from-behind fashion and take a surprise second victory! He'll be back Monday to defend his title.

Tonight's results:

Rian $9,000 + $801 = $9,801 (Who is Sam Adams?) (2-day total: $25,901)
Arjun $9,800 - $9,800 = $0 (Who is Patrick Henry?)
Adam $11,700 - $8,300 = $3,400 (Who is Williams)

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Adam $11,700 Arjun $9,800 Rian $9,000)

Rian: Limit your bet to $5,199 today to stay ahead of Adam if he makes the standard cover bet and is incorrect. I would bet as close to that number as I feel comfortable here, because Arjun has his own choice to make strategy-wise and you being more aggressive may force him into a cover bet situation himself, which plays to your advantage. (Actual bet: $801)

Arjun: You're in the betting scenario known as "Stratton's Dilemma"; you can't bet to lock out Rian and play for the Triple Stumper. If you want to play for that Triple Stumper, bet between $2 and $799 to stay ahead of Rian's pre-Final Jeopardy score. If you do choose the cover bet over Rian, then you might as well bet the full $9,800 in order to maximize potential winnings in victory. (Actual bet: $9,800)

Adam: Standard cover bet today over Arjun is $7,901. (Actual bet: $8,300)
