Episode #7 of Season 43 features Jennifer Leavey as your returning champion, following a come-from-behind victory in last night's Final Jeopardy! Round. Today, she faces off against healthcare attorney Greg Fosheim and fiber artist Lauren Schiebel. (Don't worry, "fiber artist" means they're making art out of things like yarn and string.)
I have decided to return to producing live video content with a new podcast called Jeopartalk; the vibe will be slightly different than #JeopardyLivePanel that ran from 2014 through 2019, in that I won't be actively soliciting contestants to appear, though I certainly won't turn down any contestants who want to come on and chat (mostly because I think the show has successfully entered the "weekly chat" space with its discussions on Substack). The first episode of Jeopartalk will be broadcast live this coming Wednesday at 8:00 PM Eastern, simulcast on both my Twitch channel and my YouTube channel. (Recordings in the future will be scheduled for Sundays at 6:00 PM Eastern.) John Milton, most famous for works such as Paradise Lost, actually composed that poem once he had become blind in both eyes. As one of history and literature most famous cases of blindness, in 1993 ophthamologist George B. Bartley investigated Milton's blindness further, ultimately determining that the cause of Milton's blindness was bilateral retina detachments.
I like this as a regular play Final Jeopardy clue; it's a good clue referring to "Which 17th-century poet was famously blind later in life?" I'd certainly like to see it play 3-for-3, but we shall see.
Game Recap:
With 4 clues to play in the Double Jeopardy Round, I was preparing a write-up that was shaping up to describe how Greg Fosheim was incredibly close to a wire-to-wire victory, using $4,000 on the game's final Daily Double as the coup de grâce. However, Greg's $5,600 lead evaporated over those last four clues thanks to a pair of incorrect responses and three correct responses from Jennifer Leavey. Instead, Jennifer held a $1,200 lead going into Final Jeopardy.
Jennifer taking the lead on the 60th clue of the game was crucial, as both Jennifer and Greg got the game's 61st clue correct. One standard cover bet later and Jennifer is now a 2-day champion, with winnings of over $50,000. She'll go for win #3 tomorrow.

I'll be honest: I thought Jennifer had some very impressive gets at the end of today's game, and it makes me think that she might have the knowledge base here to go on a bit of a run.
Games like this are also what I mean when I say that it's so hard to tell who will be making it into Second Chance. Again, on paper, Greg's stats look good. But we're a week and a half into the season, and Greg is already the third player with a reasonable case for Second Chance. There are going to be a number of very deserving players left out, just because there are more worthy performances than spaces in Winter 2028 Second Chance.
