Looking at the J!6 clues, it looks like Phoenix is the second of the "run a category about a city and shout out the local affiliate there" series; let's just hope that the game isn't preempted in Phoenix this evening!

Correct response: What is the fall of Constantinople?

In 1453, following the fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans in that year, an anoynmous poet wrote the threnos featured in today's Final Jeopardy clue. Most of the enlightened Western world was shocked at the fall of the Byzantine Empire, which had lasted in the area for over a millennium. The full text of the poem can be found at Cambridge University Press.
Despite the extra writing involved, I do think this should be a regular-play Final Jeopardy clue, though I suspect it might play on the harder side. I'm also hard-pressed to say if other names for Constantinople would be accepted by the judges on this one.
