Andy's Pregame Thoughts:

Yesterday saw Shannon Leigh Godwin pick up victory #2 on #Jeopardy; today, she faces off against Polly Bethea and Harshish Chitkara in an attempt to pick up win #3—a win that would guarantee her at least a spot in Champions Wildcard.

There was a slight hiccup yesterday with the publication of things due to various changes in time zones around the world; interestingly, my investigation into this has given me a thought about a famous Final Jeopardy response that I'll talk about on my next Jeopartalk episode on Sunday at 6 PM Eastern.

More Information About Final Jeopardy!:

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Following the assassination of John F. Kennedy in November 1963, Lee Harvey Oswald was in police custody and was being transferred. Jack Ruby, a Dallas nightclub owner, intercepted the transfer, shooting Oswald on live television. For that action, Ruby was sentenced to death on March 14, 1964. However, Ruby chose to appeal, stating that it was impossible for him to receive a fair trial in Dallas due to the publicity surrounding the case, and that the request for a change of venue should have been granted. Furthermore, a confession made at the jailhouse was improperly admitted into evidence. In 1966, the Texas Court of Appeals unanimously overturned the conviction, ordering a trial at a different venue than Dallas County. However, Ruby passed away from cancer before the new trial, set to occur in Wichita Falls in northern Texas, was able to occur.

To me, this had a "Who else could it be?" quality to it; however, you also have to know about Jack Ruby in order to come up with him. We'll see how it plays today.
