Our lengthy run through the series of ToCers from last spring in the weekend encore presentations continues this weekend with Ben Ganger’s attempt to get victory number six against Sarah Gillis and Keegan Olson.
I do want to mention that I have made some slight tweaks to the underlying numbers behind the Tournament of Champions predictions I use in my ToC Tracker—namely, I have chosen to use the medium-term trend of a champion winning their next game about 58% of the time on average. I do believe that the show has trended to be slightly more difficult over the past few years, and that this is a concerted effort to turn the games into buzzer races less often and reward contestants who have a deeper knowledge base.

Derived from the word viscus, meaning an internal organ of the body (i.e. the heart, liver, or intestines), the word “visceral” is an adjective meaning “coming from strong emotions and not from logic or reason”. I felt this was a good “word origins” Final Jeopardy when I first saw it, and stand by that assessment further after having seen the episode.

Game Recap:
If I gave you the three players’ Coryat scores and told you it was a runaway, you’d have expected it to have been a runaway victory for Ben and win number six. However, the high Coryat belonged to Keegan and the runaway belonged to Sarah, thanks to three bottom-row incorrect responses from Ben and a missed True Daily Double from Keegan.
Sarah having that runaway was crucial as she was the only player incorrect in Final Jeopardy, ending Ben’s run at five victories. With this ending the long run of ToCers, next weekend the show jumps back to December 2024, where we’ll see the first game of Ashley Chan.
