(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Known in Mexico as Mariposa Monarca, the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site established in 1980 is the overwintering site of the vast majority of eastern North America's monarch butterfly population. Interestingly, the generation of butterflies that undertakes the migration southwards lives significantly longer than other generations; adult monarchs live for only for a couple of months during the summer, but the migratory generation will often live for 8-9.

To me, I was aware of the migratory patterns, so this was a straightforward Final; this is definitely a clue that has the opportunity to teach viewers who don't know, though—for that reason, I like it.

Note: If you'd like to see the full statistics from this game, check out the original recap, from March 25, 2025.

Game Recap:

In a game that saw a significant amount of imperfect strategy, especially in Double Jeopardy, Eugene Huang was faced with the increasingly rare "Daily Double on the 30th clue of the Double Jeopardy! Round". With scores at $20,000–$13,600–$1,600, Eugene's best chances of winning going into Final happen with one of two choices: a) the minumum $5, to stay within two-thirds of Josh; b) $13,599 (almost all-in, putting yourself in the lead and better than three-quarters of Josh, while also keeping something around for Final.) As it turned out, Eugene bet in the middle of that with $3,000—which did keep himself with a faint hope entering Final Jeopardy after an incorrect response on that Daily Double.

Final Jeopardy today was a triple-get as Josh took win #3. Next weekend sees Josh go for win #4 against John Rindone and Melanie Hirsch.

Scores going into Final:

Josh $20,000
Eugene $10,600
Sara $1,600

Tonight's results:

Sara $1,600 + $1,600 = $3,200 (What are monarch butterflies?)
Eugene $10,600 + $9,401 = $20,001 (What are monarch butterflies? butterflie Hi Boopie!)
Josh $20,000 + $1,201 = $21,201 (What are monarch butterflies?) (3-day total: $54,001)

Game Stats:

Josh $19,200 Coryat, 26 correct, 3 incorrect, 45.61% in first on buzzer (26/57), 2/2 on rebound attempts (on 4 rebound opportunities)
Eugene $15,600 Coryat, 19 correct, 3 incorrect, 28.07% in first on buzzer (16/57), 4/4 on rebound attempts (on 6 rebound opportunities)
Sara $1,600 Coryat, 7 correct, 3 incorrect, 17.54% in first on buzzer (10/57), 0/0 on rebound attempts (on 4 rebound opportunities)
Combined Coryat Score: $36,400
