I fully expected “Twitter” to make the list of category names in the social-network-themed Jeopardy round, but no.
By the first break Adam was at least as strong as he was yesterday, with 4800. He’d gotten 9 right. Karla had gotten 3 right and had 1000, and baby-faced Greg had gotten one right and had 400.
I got this triple-stumper in Linked In: “Breech ____ grand.”
Karla found the Daily Double of the round, in Group On. She’d gotten 2 right since the break and had 2400. Adam had gotten 3 right and had 6200. Greg had gotten one right and one wrong, and was in the hole 400. Karla wagered 1500 (as Andy might say, [sigh]) on this: “Medgar Evers was a field secretary for this group; his widow Myrlie Evers-Williams was the first woman to head it.” Karla and I got it right. By the end of the round, she’d answered 3 more right and had 6300. Adam had gotten one right and one wrong and had 5800. Greg had gotten one right and had 400.
Greg found the first Daily Double of the Double Jeopardy round, the second clue in. He had 800 now. He wagered 2000 (thank you, Greg!) on this clue: “Before becoming governor, he served for two decades as a state senator from Harlem.”
I was hopeless here but Greg knew it instantly.
Adam found the next Daily Double soon after in River Under the Bridge. Mr. Trebek noted we were finding them “very early.” Adam had gotten 2 right since Greg’s Daily Double, and had 8200. Karla had gotten one right and had 7500. Greg had gotten 2 right and had 5200. Adam wagered 2000 on this clue: “Beneath the Ben Franklin Bridge that links Philadelphia & Camden, New Jersey.” I was hopeless here too but Adam knew it. Now we had 4 categories plus 2 clues left.
Anybody else go 0 for 5 in Movie Guns? I didn’t neg, but I almost said what Adam did on this last clue in the category: “That’s not a guitar in Antonio Banderas’ guitar case in this 1995 sequel to ‘El Mariachi.'”
At the end of the round, Adam had gotten 7 right and 4 wrong after his Daily Double. He had 12200. Karla had gotten 6 right but 6 wrong, too (wow!) and had 6700. Greg had gotten 4 right and one wrong and had 7600.
The Final Jeopardy category was 19th Century Authors. This is the clue: “His works include ‘Sylvie and Bruno,’ ‘Phantasmagoria and Other Poems’ & ‘Algebraic Formulae and Rules.'” Wow, Jeopardy! spelled out “and,” twice! As soon as Mr. Trebek said this was an English mathematician and author, I knew I was wrong. All the contestants were wrong, too. (Anyone reading this get it right?) Karla lost 6698. Greg lost all but 2 dollars too! It was looking good for Adam. He only lost 3001. Mr. Trebek said, “You get to play again; that’s the good news.”
My Coryat today was 19600. I had 3000 in negs, all in the Jeopardy round.
