As we get even closer to the start of Season 42, our encore presentations continue tonight with Game 1 of the 2025 Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament finals between Matt Amodio, Juveria Zaheer, and Roger Craig. While future events proved this to not be the case, with all three of these players advancing to Jeopardy! Masters, at the time we thought the first player to two wins would get a coveted Masters invite.

Fibonacci, best known in mathematics today for the sequence of numbers that begins 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and 13, learned of Arabic numerals (the numbers used today in the Western world) while as a child living in Algeria; his father Guglielmo operated a trading post there. In his Liber Abaci, Fibonacci showed the usefulness of Arabic numerals in improving business calculations—and, because capitalism, Arabic numerals were quickly adopted throughout Europe.

While Juveria struggled in this one after getting an early Daily Double incorrect, Matt and Roger had an epic battle. Matt jumped out to a big lead in Double Jeopardy, getting a Daily Double near the start of a run when he gave correct responses on 10 consecutive clues. However, Roger battled back with a True Daily Double of his own midway though Double Jeopardy and ensured that Matt didn’t have a runaway going into Final Jeopardy.

All three of our players today got Final Jeopardy correct as Matt got halfway to the tournament victory.
