Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Grace Biermann is the latest in a long line of librarians who have become a Jeopardy! champion, after her $32,000 victory in yesterday’s game. Today, she faces off in her title defense against a pair of Southerners in teacher Jennifer Canterbury and graduate student Dean Zach.
Certainly, her successful $10,000 Daily Double wager in yesterday’s game makes the Unified Prediction Model a big fan of Grace’s chances going forward; if she continues to trust her knowledge base and make aggressive wagers, I could definitely see her being a 4-day champion by the time the end of the season comes on Friday.
I would be remiss as well if I failed to point out that, ever since the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, the Tournament of Champions qualification has been extended by a number of weeks into the following season. Thus, any article that claims otherwise—in addition to any article that claims that the Tournament of Champions will have just 15 people in it—is inherently incorrect, to the point where I would still consider anyone putting out an article that claims as such in 2026 to be incompetent. The Tournament of Champions has had at least 21 players in every tournament run during the Michael Davies era, and there is no reason to believe any different.

Correct response: What is “Blue Danube”?

First performed by the Vienna Men’s Choral Association in February 1867, “The Blue Danube” became one of the most famous classical pieces worldwide after Johann Strauss II adapted it into an orchestral version for the 1867 Paris World’s Fair. Lyrics were later added back to the piece by Franz von Gernerth; the second verse begins “Far from the Black Forest you hurry to the seas giving your blessing to everything”.
Honestly, there is only so much the show can truly ask about in terms of classical music in a regular play Final Jeopardy; that narrow canon should hopefully make for a more straightforward Final Jeopardy clue for both player and home viewer alike.

Game Recap:
Dean Zach used the Daily Doubles to build a big lead… but things got very exciting as Grace and Dean tried to find the last Daily Double, with the game essentially decided by Dean finding it. (Though Grace did take one last swing right after, but it was a $2,000 neg rebounded by Dean that cemented the runaway at that point. Grace was 100% in a position where she needed to guess on that clue, though.)
Final Jeopardy was a Triple Stumper today, with Dean standing pat anyway. He’ll be back tomorrow to defend.
