Champions Wildcard continues today with Drew Goins, Jay Fisher, and Aiden Orzech. Drew had some very dominant performances last week during Second Chance—if he can keep that up, we might see Drew waltz right in to the Tournament of Champions. Jay’s the only 3-time champion in the field whose participation here was a result of Lisa Ann Walter’s very late withdrawal from the ToC field, while Aiden won a good chunk of change in his two victories.

Remember as well that our players don’t know that wild card scores thus far have been low as they’ve been sequestered; this could make things more interesting as well.

On July 22, 1962, John M. Lee of the New York Times wrote an article of the controversy surrounding the publication of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, detailing how the pesticide industry was very upset with the book, and how it detailed its harms to society. In the article, Monsanto’s Tom K. Smith had the gall to even state that “the preponderance of evidence” indicated that chemical pesticides had not taken a significant toll of wildlife. (Yeah. Sure. Whatever.)

Over the years, this book has been a favorite subject of Jeopardy; remembering that might be crucial to coming up with a correct response today.

Andy’s Thoughts:

• The fact that wild cards exist basically took what would otherwise have been an incredibly epic endgame battle and turned it into a complete anticlimax. I don’t understand why Reddit wants wild cards like this as a thing in the 2020s.
• I don’t think Drew would have risked too much by betting $2 instead of $0, on the off chance Jay chose to bet $8,001.
