Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Broadway Plays) for Wednesday, February 14, 2024 (Season 40, Game 113):

Rita Moreno & Sally Struthers were the first to star in the female version of this comedy, their characters becoming Olive & Florence

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Elliott Kim, a television editor from Los Angeles, California

Elliott Kim on Jeopardy!

Ilhana Redzovic, an investment associate from Chicago, Illinois

Ilhana Redzovic on Jeopardy!

Vince Bacani, a risk manager from Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Vince Bacani on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

After yesterday’s game saw one of the best duels in the 40-year history of the show between Kat Jepson and Long Nguyen, I have to wonder what today’s game will do for an encore! I have to say that I am not expecting Vince Bacani, Ilhana Redzovic, and Elliott Kim to light up the scoreboard as much as Kat and Long did, but I am expecting to see a strongly contested three-way battle in today’s matchup.

Another reminder that I have started a Sunday mailbag column where I answer fan & viewer questions regarding the show. If you have a question, feel free to send it to mailbag@thejeopardyfan.com!

Twenty years after it first debuted, Neil Simon created a revised version of his famous play The Odd Couple, with Oscar Madison and Felix Ungar becoming Olive Madison (Moreno) and Florence Ungar (Struthers). Interestingly, the poker game in the original version became Trivial Pursuit in the 1985 play. The play ran for 295 performances.

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Also A Magazine Title; Low Tech; The Composer Conducts; 5 For The Road; I Ran; So Far Away)

Vince found an early Daily Double in this one; this led to the start of a spirited battle between him and Ilhana over the first 15 clues.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Vince 6 correct 1 incorrect
Ilhana 5 correct 1 incorrect
Elliott 2 correct 0 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Elliott lost on the fourth of July.
Ilhana felt like Big Bird in a meme during her audition.
Vince went on Yogesh Raut’s podcast.

While both Vince and Ilhana got to 11 correct responses in this half of the round, Ilhana had a couple of incorrect responses in this segment, which allowed Vince to extend his lead. Meanwhile, Elliott might want to avoid Texas, after he responded that Emmitt Smith was with the Cardinals in 1995. (Emmitt didn’t join the Cards until nearly a decade later.)

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Vince 11 correct 1 incorrect
Ilhana 11 correct 3 incorrect
Elliott 5 correct 2 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Vince $5,600
Ilhana $3,400
Elliott $2,200

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Snakes In A Book; “American” Organizations; Tough 10-Letter Words; The Air That I Breathe; 1970s Movies; Those Meddling Kid Kings & Queens)

Both Daily Doubles came out very early in this one. While Elliott got his incorrect, Vince picked up $5,000 on his, and that forced Ilhana to have to battle back to avoid Vince from having a runaway game going into Final!

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Vince 18 correct 3 incorrect
Ilhana 21 correct 6 incorrect
Elliott 12 correct 5 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 0 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Vince $16,600
Ilhana $10,600
Elliott $4,600

Vince was the only player correct in Final Jeopardy today, and that makes him a semifinalist!

Tonight’s results:

Elliott $4,600 – $1 = $4,599 (What is Happy Valentine’s Day EK <3 HK)
Ilhana $10,600 – $10,600 = $0 (What is the Two Gentlemen of Verona?)
Vince $16,600 + $5,000 = $21,600 (What is The Odd Couple?) (Semi-Finalist)

Vince Bacani, today's Jeopardy! winner (for the February 14, 2024 game.)

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Ilhana was one of my favorite champions from last season; thus, while I’m happy to see another Canadian win, I’m also disappoointed that a personal favorite player of mine lost.
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Vince $16,600 Ilhana $10,600 Elliott $4,600)

Vince: Standard cover bet over Ilhana is $4,601. Because of the evenly spaced scores, I’d recommend just sticking with that bet today, just in case Ilhana accidentally underbets by $1. (Actual bet: $5,000)

Ilhana: If this was regular play, I’d suggest $1,400 exactly. However, because there’s no monetary difference between second and third, you might as well go all in from this position and force a cover bet out of Vince. (Actual bet: $10,600)

Elliott: Your only hope here is if Vince and Ilhana both bet too much. Go all in and pray to your deity of choice. (Actual bet: $1)

Updated CWC Group 2 odds:
