Four years after she was acquitted of murdering her father and stepmother, Lizzie Borden was accused of theft at the Tilden-Thurber art gallery in Providence, Rhode Island. The owners of the gallery decided to use the threat of negative publicity to blackmail Borden into confessing to the murders. Details of this were not released until the 1950s.
