With a population of 1.353 billion people, India is the world’s second-most populous country and the world’s most populous democracy. It also has more than 800 million registered voters and the 2014 election had a turnout of 66.4%. The election, to fill the 543 seats in the Lok Sabha, was run in nine stages over 36 days in April and May 2014, with results announced on May 16, 2014. Narendra Modi of the Bharatiya Janata Party became Prime Minister in this election; he was re-elected in 2019 in a vote with an even greater turnout than 2014.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- Sharon is the first player introduced as being from Alberta to win on Jeopardy! since Calgary’s Dan Sander won 3 games in June 2006. Do note that this does not include people who may have been originally from Alberta but were not actually introduced as being from the province. (Much like over in Newfoundland and Labrador. I still consider Kirsten Morry to be the province’s only representative on Jeopardy! until evidence can be brought forward of another contestant actually being introduced as being from the province.)
- The closed captioner is having difficulties with Gary talking quickly; it mis-interpreted Gary’s bet on the opening Daily Double as the (clearly illegal) $2000 instead of “Let’s do $1000”. This is not the first time that closed captioning has screwed up on a Daily Double bet; closed captioning caused a controvery in 2015 over a Matt Jackson $5 Daily Double bet. It is my belief here that the show and/or Standards & Practices should have the authority to request changes to captions if they do not match what actually happened on the show.
- Kudos to the writers for the categories of PHENOMENA, “DEE” DEE, DEE-DEE-DEE in Double Jeopardy. That one had a slow burn.
- The most recent regular-play game where all three players got Final Jeopardy! correct was February 25; there have now been 31 games since.
