Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category National Anthems) for Tuesday, May 3, 2022 (Season 38, Game 167):
“Terre de nos aïeux” follows the title in the French version of this anthem
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Enver Casimir, a history teacher from Albany, California
Angela Kissner, an educational consultant & tutor from Akron, Ohio
Mattea Roach, a tutor from Toronto, Ontario, Canada (20-day total: $476,985)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Yesterday’s material didn’t seem to fit any of the three contestants, with nobody making more than 30 attempts on the signalling device! Mattea Roach picked up her 20th victory, tying Julia Collins for 5th all-time! She definitely seems vulnerable, though. Both Angela and Enver are more than capable of playing Giant Killer today!
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Before we go any farther: Game material on Jeopardy is selected without regard for who any contestants may be. (In fact, removing material because it might be in the wheelhouse of a contestant would be illegal in and of itself.) On with the actual material now, “Terre de nos aïeux”, the literal translation being “Land of our ancestors”, is the second line of Canada’s national anthem, “O Canada”. A fun fact is that “O Canada” was written in Quebec for the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day celebrations in 1880, and was only translated to English later. While “O Canada” was a de facto national anthem since 1939, it only became the official national anthem in 1980.
