TJ Fisher is now a 5-day Jeopardy! champion following an incredibly dramatic Final Jeopardy Round in yesterday’s game. Today, he looks to make it an even half-dozen victories against Spencer Janes and Grace Batiste.

I have to say, the idea of “from” versus “originally from” is one where my viewpoint has changed over the years. Certainly, I have spent much of my fandom preferring “from”, and that is what I could use if I were to somehow make it to the Alex Trebek Stage, the proliferation of Internet stalking has made the use of “originally from” much more attractive to many, to obfuscate their whereabouts just enough.

Aliza Magen spent most of the 1990s as the deputy director of Mossad, Israel’s national intelligence agency. Prior to that, she spent time working on “Operation Wrath of God” for Mossad, the Israeli retaliation campaign against Palestinians for the attack against Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

The biggest issue with this clue is that unless you actually know this material, there’s really no way to determine whether the correct responses is Mossad or Interpol. I’ve often defended harder Final Jeopardy clues on this platform by saying that it’s about a subject that the show thinks viewers should know more about, and I think the show here has significantly overestimated how much they think home viewers—especially those in the younger demographics that the show so covets—are actually going to view today’s Final Jeopardy clue positively, and I think this is ultimately another case where I think it’s not apparent if the writer’s room is aware of how younger generations view the world. Certainly, if I were on Jeopardy!‘s social team, I might consider not posting today’s Final Jeopardy round to TikTok, lest the comment section be overwhelmed with watermelons.
