Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category The Early 20th Century) for Thursday, May 16, 2024 (Season 40, Game 179):

Before entering history, this man visited the grave of Bogdan Zerajic, who had died just a few years earlier

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Elizabeth Brzozowski, a social studies teacher from Fishkill, New York

Elizabeth Brzozowski on Jeopardy!

Chen Yan, a surgeon from Happy Valley, Oregon

Chen Yan on Jeopardy!

Grant DeYoung, a grocery clerk from Prescott, Arizona (1-day total: $25,601)

Grant DeYoung on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Grant DeYoung is our new Jeopardy! champion, as Will Stewart became the third 3-time champion in a two-week span to lose their fourth game. Today’s challengers are Oregon surgeon Chen Yan and New York social studies teacher Elizabeth Brzozowski.

Correct response: Who is Gavrilo Princip?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Gavrilo Princip “entered history” for committing a crime—the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the precipitating incident of World War I. Bogdan Zerajic was an inspiration to Princip as Zerajic was a proponent of tyrannicide and who failed in an assassination attempt against Bosnian governor Marijan Varešanin. Princip visited Zerajic’s grave the night before his own assassination attempt in 1914.

I suspect that while this Final Jeopardy is potentially gettable by many—especially if one can get to the correct event—I do think that it will play much more difficult than yesterday’s did.

  • Going forward, I’m not going to bother with wagering suggestions when the game is a double-runaway like this; there’s really no need for it.
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.
