Australia obtained independence from the United Kingdom when the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 1900 entered into force on January 1, 1901; the constitution may only be amended via referendum where a double majority is required—a majority of voters nationwide and a majority of voters in at least 4 of the 6 states.
This one might play slightly easier for a Canadian, as the clue uses Commonwealth terms (Royal Assent, for example) but clearly does not refer to Canada.

The opening 15 clues belonged to Daniel and Matt, with Daniel picking up the Daily Double to jump out to a small lead. Matt struggled after the first break, though, whereas Daniel consolidated his lead.

Daniel continued his strong play in Double Jeopardy!, even though he dropped both Daily Doubles. The second Daily Double was very hard to find, with Charly hopping all over for it during a late-game comeback in order to try to break Daniel’s runaway. Unfortunately for Charly, Daniel got clue #29 correct—and was rewarded with the Daily Double on Clue 30. Scores going into Final were Daniel at $18,000, Charly at $7,600, and Matt at $200—Matt struggled heavily on the signalling device, even getting beaten in on the buzzer on a clue about the Northwest Territories. (It was a bit of a negative turning poing for Matt, as well, with Matt nearly falling into the red in the aftermath).
Both Daniel and Matt got Final correct, but Daniel stood pat and became a 2-day champion! He’ll go for win #3 tomorrow!
