Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

For the second game in a row on Jeopardy!, yesterday saw a win from third place with a relatively low winning total. Yesterday, that winner was San Francisco’s Katelyn Mueller-McLean; today, she faces off against Danya Granado, originally from Colorado and Matt Wheeler of Pennsylvania.

From what I have seen over the past few years and the direction in which I think the show is trending, I get the sense that results like yesterday’s, where there will be a few more incorrect responses and Triple Stumpers if the clues don’t quite hit the contestants as well, will become more commonplace.

I should also note that there is a small chance that the results today will be delayed, but it is most likely that they’ll be up by 12:38 PM.

If you watch Jeopardy! on a FOX affiliate (there are 12 throughout the United States), coverage of the World Cup is going to cause significant preemptions over the next month. Matt Carberry’s Google sheet has the details. Remember, the five most recent shows are always available beginning the next day on Hulu, Peacock, and Crave TV in Canada.

Also on the subject of preemptions, next Friday (June 19), NBC’s coverage of golf’s US Open is also going to cause schedule headaches. From an “avoiding preemptions” perspective, it is a pleasant surprise for me that Round 1 appears to be just on Peacock, but if I were an American golf fan I wouldn’t be thrilled.

Geoffrey Chaucer wasn’t buried at Westminster Abbey in honor of his writing, most notably The Canterbury Tales. He was buried there ex officio as Clerk of the King’s Works. However, nearly two centuries later, Edmund Spenser specifically requested to be buried near Chaucer, leading to the memorial section of the Abbey known today as Poets’ Corner. More recent memorials include Ted Hughes and C.S. Lewis.
