Correct response: Who is Paul Simon?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
During South Africa’s apartheid regime, the United Nations General Assembly passed Resolution 35/206 in December 1980: “The United Nations General Assembly request all states to prevent all cultural, academic, sporting and other exchanges with South Africa. Appeals to writers, artists, musicians and other personalities to boycott South Africa. Urges all academic and cultural institutions to terminate all links with South Africa.”
After being inspired by hearing black South African music, Paul Simon assembled a group of black South African artists and flew to Johannesburg in 1985 to record what became his multi-platinum album Graceland. While the black musician’s union in the country voted to allow him to come, Simon had failed to consult the African National Congress (against Harry Belafonte’s advice), which caused the ANC to vote to ban him from South Africa after the album’s release, which also led to Simon being added to the U.N. blacklist, which he was on for a few months.
