Thanksgiving services generally predate Europeans settling in North America; additionally, during the Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress often appointed thanksgiving days, as Washington saw them as important to recognize military victories and alliances.
Thus, shortly after the Constitution was ratified and Washington was elected President in 1789, Washington issued his first proclamation on October 3, which set a day of national thanksgiving for Thursday, November 26, 1789 (the last Thursday of November).
The tradition was not picked up again until Abraham Lincoln’s more famous Thanksgiving proclamation of 1863; however, the October 3, 1863 proclamation date for a Thursday, November 26, 1863 Thanksgiving was no coincidence.
An attempt by FDR in the 1940s to move Thanksgiving one week earlier was ill-received, to say the least, and the American “fourth Thursday of November” tradition holds today.
Of course, Canadian Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October; this year, Thanksgiving is October 14 in Canada.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- This is the first game with an unplayed Daily Double since March 28, 2018 (Season 34). In Season 35, the show had instituted an official policy to not allow a round to finish with a Daily Double unplayed. It appears as though this policy has now been rescinded for Season 36.
In the “Erratum” file, the VIDEO GAME-POURRI $800 clue was incorrect. It looks like Jeopardy! fell for the Tetris block “Orange Ricky” joke from February 2019.
