From October 19th through the 26th, Gamers vs. MS will be doing a 168-hour charity video game marathon in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. Canada has one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis in the world, with an estimated 1 in every 385 Canadians living with the disease. Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) that attacks myelin (the protective covering of the nerves), causing inflammation and damage. With that damage, nerve impulses can be completely disrupted. Currently, there is no cure. I took part in the relay on Wednesday night on my own Twitch channel, with the return of the Complete the List podcast.

In contrast to the militant Pankhursts, Millicent Fawcett led a more peaceful approach to obtaining women’s suffrage in the United Kingdom in the early 20th century. While World War I halted the outward movements (with many believing Germany was the greater threat), behind-the-scenes lobbying of politicians took place during the war.
Women who met specific qualifications were granted the franchise in 1918 and was granted universally in 1928 in the United Kingdom (though Northern Ireland took until 1973 to grant universal suffrage locally).
Worldwide, New Zealand granted suffrage in 1893, and Canada extended suffrage to many women during World War I in order to obtain a conscription mandate (granting suffrage to war widows, women serving overseas, and the female relatives of men serving overseas), though Canada did not grant First Nations an unrestricted right to vote until 1960 (prior to that, First Nations were only permitted to vote if they gave up their treaty status).
