The two brothers who were considered at the 1884 Republican National Convention were Ohio senator John Sherman and famous Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman. Maine Speaker of the House James G. Blaine was given the nomination, over incumbent President Chester Arthur; John A. Logan from Illinois was named Vice President. This is also the most recent instance where an incumbent President sought but was refused his party’s nomination for President. (The Democratic ticket of Grover Cleveland and Thomas A. Hendricks won the election.)
Also, if the last few days have been any indication, expect to see the earliest daytime airings preempted today for coverage of impeachment hearings, though what usually happens is that a station will sometimes switch away for a half-hour to still air Jeopardy!.
Since Alex Trebek’s diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer, many community members have been raising money. The Jeopardy! Fan Online Store is as well!
