Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Today is the opening day of Season 38, and, it will be interesting. Matt Amodio returns as an 18-day champion. Unfortunately, his entire run has been overshadowed by the Mike Richards saga; Richards will be hosting this week’s episodes. It will be interesting to see what comes out in the edit. One reference in today’s game that will certainly have aged like milk: the leftmost category in Double Jeopardy! today is FIRST DAY ON THE JOB. Back to our champion, if Matt can regain the buzzer mojo that he had near the end of Season 37, his long run will continue. If he can’t though—things will be wide open this week. There’s nothing to say that he can’t, though: one of the hallmarks of Matt’s first 18 games was his ability to successfully have the perfect timing under multiple hosts.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to. When wearing a mask, ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Rhode Island itself was founded by Roger Williams in 1636 after being exiled from the Massachusetts Bay Colony; Williams was a staunch proponent of the separation of church and state and fair dealings with Native Americans, going as far as to question colonial charters that failed to acknowledge the fair purchase of indigenous lands.
Williams himself founded the First Baptist Church in 1638 in Providence after holding services in his own home for two years prior. The Touro Synagogue lays claim to being America’s oldest synagogue, with its building in Newport, Rhode Island built in 1763.
