Later this week, a number of CBS affiliates are going to begin their March Madness coverage, which will likely lead to pre-emptions in areas of the country where CBS airs the show.

Correct response: What is Gallipoli?

The Turkish peninsula of Gallipoli (then part of the Ottoman Empire) was invaded by the Entente powers in early 1915. The Ottoman forces held their positions well, to the point where most historians consider the attempt to be a resounding defeat for British forces. The British Empire’s casualties included significant losses by Australia and New Zealand, to the point where the April 25 anniversary of the landings is now known as Anzac Day in those countries. The Dominion of Newfoundland—at that point its own country and not a province of Canada—also was involved at Gallipoli. You can actually find out more about the Dominion of Newfoundland’s involvement at Gallipoli (and all of World War I) at the Provincial Museum of Newfoundland and Labrador, at The Rooms in St. John’s. I went last November and it was an enjoyable visit!

Jeopardy! Round categories: A Few Moments with Millard Fillmore, Hobbies, I Love You 3,000, Europe, ’70s Television, Words with Only One Consonant
Matt got off to a hot start, but it was Amy who found the Daily Double on Clue 8; she made it a True Daily Double and doubled through. At the first break, Amy held a $600 lead over Matt. Coming out of the break, Matt had a very strong set of 15 clues, picking up 9 of them to take a $2,800 lead after Single Jeopardy.
Double Jeopardy! Round categories: The New York Times Book Review, Tune River, Nuclear Physics, Rhyming with the Greek Gods, Libraries, “Sh”!
The two Daily Doubles came up on back-to-back clues; Amy picked up them both, but split them for a net negative-$2,000. For most of the round, Matt had a runaway situation, but Amy picked up enough in the second half of the round to prevent a runaway.
In Final, Amy was the only player to get Final correct, and that led to a come-from-behind victory for her—and a bit of a shock, as it seems! Congratulations to her; she’ll be back tomorrow to defend!

Matt: Standard cover bet today is $3,201. I’d generally recommend not going higher than that, as there’s a nonzero chance of the trailing player not betting enough. $4,799 would be the upper limit to keep Susan locked out of winning, though.
Susan: You need a correct response and an overwager from Matt in order to win. I personally like holding back $2, in case Amy holds back $0 or $1. Thus, I’d bet $5,598.
Amy: The absolute minimum you should bet is $3,201. If you want to get fancy, you could cap your bet at $3,999 in order to force Susan to be correct to beat you. But, I’d probably bet the full $9,600 in order to maximize your potential winnings.
