Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Matt has been incredibly dominant, especially at the bottom of the board, over his first three wins, and has been the first player in a few seasons to crack the $100,000 mark over his first three wins. One thing that concerns me slightly: Matt has averaged 4 incorrect responses over his first three games. If one of those incorrect responses comes at the wrong time, it could be curtains for him.
One thing that I will expect to see over the next week from uninformed viewers: I expect that some viewers will accuse NBC of an underhanded conspiracy for preempting LeVar Burton’s episodes during the Olympics. This is absolutely false. Jeopardy! is not an NBC property, and has not been since 1975. It is what is known in the United States as syndicated television, in that the local broadcast rights in each of the United States’ 230 local broadcast areas are sold independently. Meaning, the show airs on various local affiliates of ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, or even some independent stations, depending on where one lives. Thus, Jeopardy! has no control over NBC’s Olympic schedule and NBC is not deliberately trying to undercut Jeopardy!.
Meanwhile, an interesting development in the permanent host search came from the world of sports very late on Friday: A number of Las Vegas sports books are no longer allowing bets on Green Bay’s win-loss record in the 2021 NFL season, expecting that Aaron Rodgers’ retirement is likely. To me, it’s at least a possibility that Rodgers’ retirement and his future plans (including a distinct possibility that he will be hosting next season) are going to be announced in the next week or two. It would not surprise me if this news was to break either this weekend, or very early next week.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to. When wearing a mask, ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

English theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking was one of popular science’s most preeminent names in the late 20th and early 21st centuries; his book A Brief History of Time, about his theories on cosmology (the origin and chronology of the universe), was a worldwide bestseller. For the last 50 years of his life, Hawking lived with slow-progressing motor neurone disease; his original prognosis was that he would only live two. Hawking was one of the world’s most prominent users of a speech generating device due to this.

-$7,400 is believed to be the lowest score recorded on the show. However, Joan Kantor did finish a Season 1 game at -$5,100; taking doubled dollar values into account, that would be -$10,200 and still holds the outright record.

- LeVar did say in interviews that he struggled at the start of the week. I’m going to wait until the end of the week to judge his performance.
