Correct response: What is Catch-22?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
The term “catch-22”, from Joseph Heller’s 1961 novel, was defined in Chapter 5 of that work thusly: “There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one’s own safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn’t, but if he was sane, he had to fly them. If he flew them, he was crazy and didn’t have to; but if he didn’t want to, he was sane and had to.” The term very quickly entered the general parlance to describe a paradoxical situation from which one cannot escape because of a contradiction of rules or limitations.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- I was asked on Friday why Karen’s chances of winning are only in the 60% range. Her scores going into Final Jeopardy haven’t been particularly high. I figure it’s only a matter of time before she finds herself in a game that is closer going into Final. If Final breaks the wrong way in that case, she’ll end up going home.
