Correct response: Who is Ernest Hemingway?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
The profile of Hemingway ran in May of 1950 and is still available online. According to the profile, Hemingway, who at the time was certainly in the debate to be considered the greatest living American novelist of the time period, very much disliked New York, much preferring places like Cuba, Paris, and Venice, also saying that Westport (the Connecticut city about 50 miles northeast of NYC) gives him “the horrors”.
Hemingway’s book Across the River and into the Trees was published around this time to negative reviews; his next work, 1952’s The Old Man and the Sea won him a Pulitzer and made him an international celebrity. Unfortunately, a succession of plane crashes in Africa left Hemingway injured for the rest of his life; many erroneous obituaries had been published due to the severity of the crashes.
Since Alex Trebek’s diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer, many community members have been raising money. The Jeopardy! Fan Online Store is as well! All proceeds from any “Keep The Faith And We’ll Win” shirt sold will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. To date, over $440 has been raised.)
