Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Odd Titles) for Monday, August 23, 2021 (Season 26, Game 51):
Gilbert & Sullivan’s “Mikado”, not Milne, gave us this hyphenated title for a pompous functionary
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s editorial: As of right now, Mike Richards is still the Executive Producer of Jeopardy. After the comments of his revealed last week by The Ringer, in my opinion here at The Jeopardy! Fan, I do not believe that Richards is capable of properly serving as Executive Producer of Jeopardy!. After his prejudicial comments against many segments of the population, it will leave both Sony and Jeopardy liable to accusations of bias and prejudicial behaviour, especially if a member of one of those groups gets disadvantaged on or by the program.
To Tony Vinciquerra at Sony Pictures Television, who was so proud to take the credit for Mike Richards’ hiring: This is now as much on you as it is on Richards; you have the opportunity to fix this, and I expect you to do so. Jeopardy, and the hundreds of millions of dollars of profits it brings in, will be jeopardized if you do not remove Richards from his role.
Today’s contestants:
Patrick Pence, a GIS coordinator from Tallahassee, Florida
Cathy Sorge, an archivist from Silver Spring, Maryland
Ben Davis, a law student from Chicago, Illinois (1-day total: $20,801)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Season 38 begins September 13 with the return of 18-day champion Matt Amodio; in the interim, Jeopardy! is running four weeks of reruns. The first two weeks will be the 10 “Alex Around the World” episodes that ran in his memory in late December; the 2021 Tournament of Champions, hosted by Buzzy Cohen, will air from August 30 through September 10. Today’s episode featured a category about Israel with Alex on location and originally aired November 23, 2011.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to. When wearing a mask, ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2021 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Derived from the character Pooh-Bah in The Mikado—the character in that work holds numerous high offices, including “Lord High Everything Else”—the term “Grand Poobah” is probably best known today from its recurring use on The Flintstones, as the head of the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes. It’s also generally used today in a mocking fashion of someone who has an inflated sense of self-regard and takes impressive titles for themself.
