Warning: This page contains spoilers for the August 17, 2026, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that today's game is an encore presentation of the game that originally aired on January 26, 2026.

Here's today's Final Jeopardy (in the category U.S. States) for Monday, August 17, 2026 (Season 42, Game 101):

This border state produced about half of the gunpowder for the Union

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today's Jeopardy! contestants:

TJ Fisher, a marketing specialist from San Francisco, California
Mike Dawson, a technology manager from Portland, Oregon
Lisa Ann Walter, an actor, comedian & activist originally from Washington, D.C.

Andy's Pregame Thoughts:

Our week of Jeopardy! encore presentations kick off with the last of our quarterfinals, between Lisa Ann Walter, Mike Dawson, and TJ Fisher. TJ was a 5-time champion who was very strong on the buzzer, while Mike was a 3-time champion and Lisa Ann won Season 2 of Celebrity Jeopardy.

Unlike during the original airing of these games, though, the games during the encore presentations will be airing in taping order, with the "exhibition game" between Laura Faddah, Scott Riccardi, and Paolo Pasco (the three players seeded into the semifinals) airing tomorrow.

Now well known today as the home of chemical companies such as DuPont, the small state of Delaware—one of the border states between the Union and Confederacy during the U.S. Civil War—produced about half of the gunpowder used by Union Forces during the U.S. Civil War.

Now, I realize that this is the Tournament of Champions, but I feel as though the term "border states", while it clearly implies "border state" in the Civil War usage, is ambiguous in a category title that isn't specifically referencing the Civil War. After all, "border state" could mean "the U.S.–Canada border" or even "the U.S.–Mexico border". To me, this is unnecessarily confusing to the home viewer.

Andy's Thoughts:

  • I guess my concerns about category titles might not have been founded, as both Mike and TJ did guess Civil War "border states".
  • I feel like the more we look into the future, the more we'll realize that Ike Barinholtz might have been the "Spiders Georg" of Celebrity Jeopardy! contestants.
  • Today's J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: TJ $15,600 Mike $8,000 Lisa Ann -$2,600)
Lisa Ann: (By rule, could not participate in Final Jeopardy)

Mike: You have to be correct to advance. Go all in. (Actual bet: $8,000)

TJ: Standard cover bet is $401. (Actual bet: $401)
