The Black Swan is a 2007 book by Nassim Nicholas Taleb and focuses on the possible extreme impact of highly improbable outlier events. Examples focused on in the book include the September 11 attacks, the rise of Google, and World War I. It spent 36 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list.
In Australia, the black swan is the state bird of Western Australia as it is common in the wetlands of both southwestern and eastern Australia, where it was discovered. They were then introduced as ornamental birds into New Zealand and Europe where they have often escaped into the wild.
