Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Futuristic Fiction) for Friday, July 20, 2018 (Season 34, Episode 225):
Fear of the social reorganization represented by an auto tycoon’s innovations inspired this 1932 novel
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Dave Mattingly, a director of technology from Old Forge, Pennsylvania
Emily Moore, a consultant from Atlanta, Georgia
Ryan Fenster, a student from SeaTac, Washington (6-day total: $127,397)
If you’re at all familiar with NFL Twitter, Dave is the programmer behind the Scorigami Twitter bot (which took Jon Bois’ idea and turned it into real-time tracking during the NFL season).
Ryan is quite high on our ToC Tracker; see where Ryan finds himself on the list here!
Ryan was brought back on Tuesday because the judges reversed themselves on a ruling of “schism” vs. “Great Schism” in the February 2 game. Others who have won an interrputed five games or more (having won at least once, then coming back, and winning again) include Bob Mesko in 2006 and Tom Nichols in 1994.
On the most recent episode of #JeopardyLivePanel, I interviewed Ali Hasan! Check out the interview here (or on Apple Podcasts!).
Correct response: What is Brave New World?

More information about Final Jeopardy:
Brave New World is Aldous Huxley’s dystopian novel satirising some of the utopian works of H. G. Wells. Around the time of its publication, many lived in fear of losing individual identity, and parts of Brave New World played on that, including the fact that in the World State of the novel, only 10,000 last names are in use.
The calendar in Brave New World, instead of AD (Anno Domini), is labeled AF (After Ford), dating from the October 1908 introduction of the Model-T Ford. The novel opens in AF 632 (AD 2540).
