Pliny the Younger’s letters recount the 79 A.D. eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which led to the death of his uncle, Pliny the Elder. His famous letters are known as the Epistulae. The Vesuvian letters recount Pliny the Elder’s scholarly efforts to observe the eruption that caused his death by the eruption.
You can read Pliny the Younger’s letters here. The two dealing with Vesuvius are Book 6, letters 16 and 20.
