Correct response: What is the Panama Canal?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
The highway runs between Panama City and Colón, Panama, largely replaced now by the Colón Expressway. “Carretera Transistmica” is Spanish for “Transisthmian Highway”.
According to the State Department website (archived in 2013), night driving on the road is particularly hazardous.
In its name, the Boyd is definitely Augusto Samuel Boyd, who was President of Panama at its opening c. 1940; the Roosevelt could refer to either Teddy (who was instrumental in the construction of the Panama Canal), or Franklin (President of the U.S. at the time of its opening). I have been unable to find a definitive source as to which Roosevelt it is named after. I’m reasonably sure if one exists, though, one of my readers will put it in the comments section prior to the end of the day!

Andy’s Thoughts:
- You’d think Alex would know more about wagering strategy after 35 seasons of hosting. His stating Jonathan’s strategy in the opening of “Bet to beat ’em by a buck if they double” and acting as though it was novel seems silly.
- Robert needed to bet $5,000 on that last Daily Double. You can’t be afraid to make that bet, especially as players are 22-for-25 this season in the second row in Double Jeopardy! on Daily Doubles. Moreover, it was a category where he’d picked up two harder clues. Obviously, it was a moot point based on how Final turned out, but my point stands.
- Chelsea’s situation was much more precarious when she found hers. I can hardly fault her for only betting $3,000, especially as it was a $2,000 clue (58% this season), in a category with a cryptic title. She also deserves props for getting that clue correct.
- I was hoping to see a clue about tinkers in 19th CENTURY OCCUPATIONS and was disappointed!
- One of these days I’m going to do a character count of clues in J! Archive by season to get to the bottom of why so many boards are being unfinished these days.
- With a Teachers Tournament on the calendar for May, this win by Jonathan eliminates Kyle Becker from ToC contention.
