Correct response: Who are Calvin and Hobbes?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
The European theologian who believed in predestination: John Calvin; Calvin’s church in Geneva was the subject of Final Jeopardy! back in early October. Calvin had been driven from France into Switzerland due to religious tensions.
The philosopher was Thomas Hobbes, who famously described life in the state of nature as “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short”.
Putting them together as a little boy (Calvin) and his pet tiger (Hobbes) was cartoonist Bill Watterson who drew the strip between 1985 and 1995.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- The J! round categories saw NEVER GONNA GIVE U UP and RICK ROLES in the far right. Took the writers long enough to make that joke!
- Someone put a curse on the set back in August. That would be one explanation for why we’re seeing all of these four-time champs not make it to five.
- I don’t get why a player would bet almost all the way up to a full cover but not actually go through with the full cover. But I’m not the one on the stage, either. If I get there, I can play the game the way I want to, and until that point, the players on stage can play the game the way they want to.
- John was a popular champion and I think that there are going to be a lot of people disappointed that he didn’t get to five victories.
- To compare with the in first on buzzer statistics above, the “effective in first on buzzer” statistics (by the way, that name for the stat isn’t set in stone, so please feel free to make a suggestion if you have something better): Haley 41.18% (21/51), John 37.25% (19/51), Julie 21.57% (11/51)
