Correct response: What is “Roxanne” (by the Police)?

“Roxanne” was The Police’s debut single, released in the late 1970s. The BBC refused to play it because of its subject matter (Roxanne was a prostitute; her name was given because Roxanne was Cyrano de Bergerac’s unrequited lover in that well-known Edmond Rostand play). It didn’t gain traction until it began getting airplay in the United States (due to the band beginning to tour the US) and peaked at #32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
