Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

After an extremely exciting game last night, today’s Champions Wildcard match is between Alan Johnson, Dennis Chase, and Kate Lazo! I’m expecting to see another hotly-contested match today, though Dennis does have extremely strong statistics (his average Coryat is over $20,000).

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2023 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Upset at the fact that Joan of Arc’s appearance at Orléans in 1429 had caused a French victory, the English captured the military leader the following year, painting her as a religious heretic and burning her at the stake in 1431. However, following the French victory in the Hundred Years’ War, Pope Callixtus III was petitioned to repair Joan’s honor; the Catholic Church declared on July 7, 1456 that Joan had been tried as a result of “false articles of accusations” of heresy; effectively implying that Joan had been martyred as a prisoner of war. By the early 20th century, Joan had been canonized by the Catholic Church.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Ken did say that just “Joan” or “Jeanne” would have been acceptable.
  • Viewers are reminded that the Site Comment Policy sections referring to whether or not contestants phrased responses in the form of a question now explicitly references whether or not contestants pronounced responses properly. The judges have the ability to isolate contestant audio to listen and claims that contestants mispronounced responses will not be permitted on this site.

  • Today’s box score: November 10, 2023 Box Score.

Dennis: Standard cover bet over Kate is $6,701. (Actual bet: $10,500)
