At this point, I think it’s important for me to say this: A number of you have reached out to me privately over the last few days and have expressed concern about some of the things I’ve said recently. Correct response: Who is Don Quixote?

Fyodor Dostoyevsky was deeply inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ earlier character, Don Quixote, when writing The Idiot about Prince Myshkin. In the work, Myshkin’s goodness and simplicity lead him to be branded as an idiot in Russian society.
One thing I’ve found interesting this morning is Jeopardy!‘s choice to transliterate the name as Dostoyevsky (as opposed to Dostoevsky). Looking through J! Archive, it definitely appears as though it started as Dostoevsky (the very early-season references were that way), but it changed at some point and now includes a Y between the O and the E.

The Daily Double came out early—again—before Margaret could really take advantage to it, but she did pick up $1,000 for it. Meanwhile, Adrian struggled early with incorrect responses, picking up four over the first seven clues, but recovered with a couple of correct responses before the first break. Margaret continued playing well after the break, running up a bit of a lead by the end of the round.
