On Richard Nixon’s famous trip to China in 1972, Nixon made a point of reciting the poetry of Chairman Mao, in both speeches and in discussions with Chinese premier Zhou Enlai. Much of Mao’s poetry was inspired by past Chinese emperors, especially the Tang and Song dynasties—writing poetry was a task expected of many past emperors of China. The Poems of Mao Zedong, first allowed to be published in Beijing in 1963, have been translated and published in English since.

Assuming a contestant associates 1972 with Nixon’s visit to China, it should be a relatively straightforward jump over to successfully naming Chairman Mao here.
