Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category National Anthems) for Friday, June 30, 2023 (Season 39, Game 210):
The name of this country’s national anthem translates as “His Majesty’s Reign” & its lyrics come from a 1,000-year-old poem
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Ilena Di Toro, a public relations specialist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Courtney Johnston, an attorney from Denver, Colorado
Bryan White, a senior regulatory compliance analyst originally from Santa Maria, California (2-day total: $32,007)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Bryan White is now a 2-day champion on Jeopardy!; yesterday, he picked up his second runaway in two games. Today, which serves as Mayim Bialik’s final game as host this season, Courtney Johnston & Ilena Di Toro are your challengers.

“Kimigayo”, the national anthem of Japan, is said to translate to “His Majesty’s Reign”—though that translation has not been enshrined by law. Its lyrics come from an anonymous poem first published anonymously c.920 in the Kokin Wakashū. While the song had been Japan’s de facto anthem since 1880, the Act on National Flag and Anthem in 1999 formally established both Japan’s current flag and “Kimigayo” as the country’s official flag and anthem.

Double Jeopardy! saw some high-value incorrect responses keep the scores down. Meanwhile, Bryan found the last Daily Double on the second-to-last clue, and didn’t take clue #30 into account when making his bet sizing. This let Ilena break the runaway by getting clue #30 correct!

Courtney 7 correct 3 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 35 (0 today).
