Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category TV Characters) for Friday, December 6, 2024 (Season 41, Game 65):

On TV in the 1960s & the 2020s, this character has a first name that’s partly from Latin for “death”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Erin Adams, a historian & educator from Springfield, Tennessee

Erin Adams on Jeopardy!

Zach DeBoer, a graduate student from Winston-Salem, North Carolina

Zach DeBoer on Jeopardy!

Dave Bond, a retired grant manager from West Henrietta, New York (1-day total: $25,000)

Dave Bond on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

After a plausible theory has surfaced, courtesy Matt Carberry, regarding the timing of Lisa Ann Walter’s late cancellation from competing in the Tournament of Champions and how it came after the Tournament of Champions taped (See, Darian, how easy it is to actually credit someone instead of referring to unnamed Redditors?), it appears as though we can close the book on the 32nd Tournament of Champions. Whoever wins today will be held over until the postseason cycle leading up to the 33rd ToC in 2026. The prediction model here at The Jeopardy! Fan thinks there’s about a 60% chance of that winner today being defending champion Dave Bond, who won $25,000 after a runaway performance yesterday. Of course, there are two challengers in Zach DeBoer and Erin Adams who’ll want to take victory themselves!

Correct response: Who is Morticia Addams?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Morticia Addams, the matriarch of the Addams clan in The Addams Family, was portrayed by Carolyn Jones in the 1960s (The Addams Family) and Catherine Zeta-Jones in the 2020s (Wednesday). She’s also been portrayed on film by Anjelica Huston in the 1990s (The Addams Family and Addams Family Values).

Compared to some of the other more difficult Finals this week, I expect that today’s will end up being more straightforward. We shall see, though!

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Pick Your Battles; A “Barrel” Of Fun; Scientific Discoveries; You’re Going To Houston; Cash Considerations; A Player To Be Named)

All three players got off to a good start; in an opening segment with zero Triple Stumpers, Dave led with $3,200, with Erin in second at $2,800 and Zach having $2,400.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Dave 6 correct 0 incorrect
Erin 3 correct 0 incorrect
Zach 6 correct 1 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Erin has headcanon that Alex Trebek got so smart because of her dad’s garbage.
Zach was very good at Pictionary in high school.
Dave once modeled the impact of tariff reductions.

Things were pretty close just after the break when Dave went and converted a True Daily Double. While Zach and Erin clawed some of the deficit back, Dave still led after 30.

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Dave 10 correct 0 incorrect
Zach 12 correct 1 incorrect
Erin 7 correct 0 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Zach $6,000
Erin $4,800

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Literary Landmarks; In The Kitchen; Gendered Language; “A” For Art; Lakes; 2024 DNC State Roll Call Songs)

Erin found DD2 immediately, but bet just $2,200. It took nearly the entire round to find DD3; Zach found it, but only bet $2,000 (despite eventually going 4-for-5 in the category). The $4,400 left on the table ended up being the exact difference between third and first going into FInal Jeopardy.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Dave 19 correct 0 incorrect
Erin 14 correct 1 incorrect
Zach 20 correct 3 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 15 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Dave $16,400
Erin $13,000
Zach $12,000

Both Erin and Dave were correct; Dave wins game #2 and gets to go for win #3 on Monday!

Tonight’s results:

Zach $12,000 – $2,000 = $10,000 (Who is Moriarity?)
Erin $13,000 + $7,000 = $20,000 (Who is Morticia Addams?)
Dave $16,400 + $10,000 = $26,400 (Who is Morticia?) (2-day total: $51,400)

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • I feel like Zach’s Second Chance chances would have been significantly higher had he gone for a True Daily Double on DD3.
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Dave $16,400 Erin $13,000 Zach $12,000)

Dave: Standard cover bet over Erin is $9,601. (Actual bet: $10,000)

Zach: I’d bet between $2,000 and $5,199 here—or, all-in is an option as well if you think Erin won’t cover. (Actual bet: $2,000)

Erin: You’re in Stratton’s Dilemma; you can’t both cover Zach and win on a Triple Stumper. If covering Zach, bet at least $11,001. If playing for a Triple Stumper, I would limit my bet here to $999, but anything up to $6,199 is probably OK. (Actual bet: $7,000)
