Correct response: Who is Charles Rolls?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

John Moore-Brabazon, who was the first Englishman to pilot a heavier-than-air powered aircraft, during his studies at Trinity College, Cambridge, spent his holidays working as an unpaid mechanic for fellow Trinity alumnus Charles Rolls, who co-founded auto manufacturer Rolls-Royce with Henry Royce. Unfortunately, Rolls—the second airplane pilot in Britain—became the first one to die in a powered aircraft accident, when the tail of his Wright Flyer broke up while flying in Bournemouth. Moore-Brabazon later served in the early World War II cabinet of Winston Churchill, serving as Minister of Transport and Minister of Aircraft Production, later being elevated to the House of Lords as Baron Brabazon of Tara.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • I have often made reference to Daily Double wagers in that seem aggressive on their surface but really aren’t. Tim’s bet on the final Daily Double falls into that category. That was a situation where a bet of at least $11,600 would have been understandable, as a Daily Double is usually easier than a random Final Jeopardy. Or, bet $3,200 or fewer if you would rather take your chances in Final Jeopardy. But $6,000 risks giving up an advantage that Tim has worked particularly hard for all game, without much significant upside.
