Django Unchained was a 2012 Quentin Tarantino film starring Jamie Foxx as Django; the film was envisioned as a Spaghetti Western set in the American South. Christoph Waltz won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Dr. Schultz, who frees Django in the film in exchange for knowledge of the whereabouts of the outlaw Brittle brothers. Tarantino won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for the film. However, Tarantino was heavily criticized by many in the Black community for his inappropriately high use of racial slurs in the film.
