More information about Final Jeopardy:
The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe (who later went on to write works such as Bonfire of the Vanities, not to be confused with Thomas Wolfe, who wrote earlier in the century) was based on countless interviews with American test pilots, astronauts, and their spouses. Inspired by Wolfe’s having been asked to cover the Apollo 17 mission for Rolling Stone, it focused on the test pilots of the 1940s and 1950s like Chuck Yeager and Scott Crossfield, and then the Mercury Seven astronauts (Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Alan Shepard, and Deke Slayton.)
It was adapted into the 1983 film of the same name, starring Sam Shepard, Scott Glenn, Ed Harris, Dennis Quaid, and Fred Ward.
