Correct response: What are the 95 Theses?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

The 16th century Catholic church raised significant amounts of money from the selling of “indulgences” in order to temporally absolve people of their sins (according to the teachings of the times, confessing absolves those of eternal punishment, but temporal punishment still needed to be served, otherwise generally by performing acts of mercy). In 1515, Pope Leo X began selling plenary indulgences in order to finance the construction of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and applied to almost any sin, including adultery and theft. Martin Luther felt that this cheapened grace and the concept of repentance and wrote his 95 Theses as a result, Luther was excommunicated and a large schism occurred in the Catholic church.

Since Alex Trebek’s diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer, many community members have been raising money. The Jeopardy! Fan Online Store is as well! All proceeds from any “Keep The Faith And We’ll Win” shirt sold will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. To date, over $440 has been raised.)

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • When you have a correct response as short as “95 Theses”, you don’t need to try to write out anything longer.
  • Alex’s 3-day total is the lowest since Dylan Parson won $29,799 from September 22-24, 2015 (Dylan lost to Matt Jackson the next day.)
