Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category European Artists) for Friday, August 30, 2019 (Season 35, Episode 122, encore presentation):
His seldom-used last name reflects his birth near the mouth of a river that flows from the Alps to the North Sea
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Team Ken, consisting of Ken Jennings (C), Matt Jackson (L), and Monica Thieu (R) (Yesterday’s total: $9,800)
Team Austin, consisting of Austin Rogers (C), Roger Craig (L), and Leonard Cooper (R) (Yesterday’s total: $2,800)
Team Julia, consisting of Julia Collins (C), Ben Ingram (L), and Seth Wilson (R) (Yesterday’s total: $5,600)
Today’s final score will be added to Monday’s final score to determine this match’s winner, who will go straight to the final on September 5 & 6. Three wild cards will then play in a wild card match on September 3 & 4.
Wondering why James Holzhauer isn’t taking part? This tournament originally aired in February, prior to James even being known by everyone, and is re-airing over the next two weeks. James returns in November.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- Because of the fact that tomorrow’s scores can be effectively doubled in Final Jeopardy!, Team Ken has a $16,001.50 lead on Team Austin, and $20,001.50 lead on Team Julia.
- Also, remember that no team actually knows that the wild card cutoff is $21,800 (though as it stands now, Team Ken will advance to tomorrow no matter what happens).
- As evidenced by the stats above, Roger actually out-buzzed Matt 12-10, but four really expensive negs ended up really hurting Roger, and Matt took really good advantage of the opportunities that he was presented.
