The lawsuit was surrounding the Baby Ruth candy bar; the Curtiss Candy Company had declined to negotiate an endorsement deal with the baseball legend, instead claiming that the bar was named after the first-born daughter of President Grover Cleveland. Moreover, when Ruth did endorse his own candy bar, in 1931, Curtiss sued, and won, in George H. Ruth Candy Co. v. Curtiss Candy Co.
Longtime Jeopardy! fans may remember that back in 2003, the Baby Ruth candy bar was the subject of the Final Jeopardy! that resulted in Frank Amanat’s return to the show.
