Jamie Ding, a bureaucrat & law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey (28-day total: $774,601)

Jamie Ding on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Jamie Ding has moved to 28 victories after a bit of a scare last night—one where the only debatable visible piece of orange he wore was a pocket square that still looked more red than orange to me. Certainly, after what was likely seen as Jamie’s worst game statistically, I’d be wanting to make sure I wore visible orange from here on out. In any case, we have Ruey Yen and Suzanne Perla Blank as our challengers today as Jamie looks to get to his 29th victory. One thing is for certain: Jamie will pass the 900-correct-response mark in today’s game.

In another Jamie stat, yesterday’s game saw only the 9th instance in 28 games where Jamie failed to give a correct response in a category. (For comparison’s sake, Ken’s “0 correct in a category” count was 12 through 28 games.)

It should also be noted that, due to ABC’s coverage of the NFL draft tomorrow and Friday, there will be pre-emptions if you watch the show on an ABC local affiliate. Check your local listings or Matt Carberry’s Google sheet for the rescheduled time.

Final Jeopardy! Category: 20th Century Phrases

Final Jeopardy! Clue: Before this 2-word term came to mean a type of mysterious object, trapshooters used it to refer to their targets

In order to redesign our merchandise area to serve you better in 2026, all merchandise sales have been temporarily taken offline. Look for a return in late 2026! All previous orders will still be supported.

Correct response: What is flying saucer?

More Information About Final Jeopardy!:

In 2015, when The New York Times was looking back upon the origin of various terms and when they entered the public consciousness, Mark Bulik wrote, “the first times they showed up, they were being shot at. But those references to ‘flying saucers’ appeared in articles about skeet shooting, and came from writers seeking a synonym for the clay disks.” But come the UFO craze of 1947, the term gained a different meaning: as a synonym for the unidentified flying objects that many Americans felt were invaders from outer space.

Word/phrase origin Final Jeopardy clues always tend to play on the more difficult side on the show; it would not surprise me if this only saw 0 or 1 correct responses.

Game Recap & Tonight’s Game Stats:

Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! today? Here’s the Wednesday, April 22, 2026 Jeopardy! by the numbers, along with a recap:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Amazing Andrews; Familiar Phrases; Do I Look Fad In This?; Primer; Foundation; Lip Gloss)

Jamie found the Daily Double early and led at the break. After 15 clues, your scores were Jamie $6,400 Ruey $2,000 Suzanne $800.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Jamie 8 correct 0 incorrect
Ruey 3 correct 1 incorrect
Suzanne 1 correct 0 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Ruey thinks he got Called because he plays Jeopardy! Bar League.
Suzanne has played mahjong for 20 years.
Jamie was part of a radio astronomy team in high school.

While Ruey picked up a handful of correct responses to stay close, Jamie picked up another snowman’s worth (8) to extend his lead. On the opening board, Jamie went 4/5 in Foundation and 3/5 in fads and lip gloss.

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Jamie 16 correct 0 incorrect
Ruey 8 correct 1 incorrect
Suzanne 3 correct 0 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Jamie $9,800
Ruey $4,400
Suzanne $1,400

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Victorian Times; Song Story; Siblings; Post-Apocalpytic Page-Turners; River Cities & Towns; Do Not Pick This Category)

Even though I found a lot of the clue selection in this round to be beyond the pale after Suzanne found DD2 immediately, I have to give credit to her wagering—table maximum on the first one and all but $100 on the second. Unfortunately, she was incorrect on DD3, which was enough to ensure Jamie had a runaway entering FInal Jeopardy. On our second board, Jamie was 3/5 in stories about how songs were written.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Jamie 28 correct 3 incorrect
Ruey 11 correct 1 incorrect
Suzanne 9 correct 3 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 11 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Jamie $20,200
Ruey $7,600
Suzanne $100

Not that it mattered thanks to the double-runaway, but this Final Jeopardy turned out to be a Triple Stumper. Jamie’s now a 29-day champion as he goes for #30 tomorrow!

Tonight’s results:

Suzanne $100 – $100 = $0 (What is a black hole?)
Ruey $7,600 – $2,400 = $5,200 (What is ?)
Jamie $20,200 – $1,199 = $19,001 (What is…clay pigeon???) (29-day total: $793,602)

Jamie Ding, today's Jeopardy! winner (for the April 22, 2026 game.)
