Today's Jeopardy! contestants:
Greg enters today's game as a 3-day champion with winnings of $60,300.
Andy's Pregame Thoughts:
Our three players today hail from Alaska, Texas, and Oregon. Greg Monson is a 3-day champion, having won a shade more than $60,000. That does mean we will see him on the Alex Trebek Stage again at some stage of the Winter 2028 postseason, either as part of Champions Wildcard or the Tournament of Champions proper. Today, though, he faces off against Alaska's Ron Clarke and Houston's Evelyn Lamb.
It definitely seemed as though Greg played much better yesterday than he did the previous week. Ken mentioned that Greg had dealt with some travel issues getting to Los Angeles; I get the sense that a fully-rested Greg might be a very strong player.

Correct response: What is "We Are The World"?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
"We Are The World" is a famous 1985 charity single for African famine relief, recorded by a supergroup of American musicians as a response to Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas" the previous winter. Recorded in late January 1985, Stevie Wonder reportedly joked to the rest of the group that if it took more than one take, he and Ray Charles would be in charge of driving everybody home after the recording.
I have to say, today's Final Jeopardy seems to be an incredible coincidence. LearnedLeague, on August 25, 2026—seven days before the taping of this episode on September 1, 2026—asked about this exact same fact. I'm not saying anything untoward is happening here—a good trivia question is a good trivia question and it's clear that both Thorsten A. Integrity and the Jeopardy! writers clearly saw this fact independently somewhere and decided it made a good thing to ask about. However, I do think that the writers probably should have considered shelving this Final Jeopardy for a few months, just to avoid the appearance that they might have been cribbing material—just because Final Jeopardy is so prominent.
That being said, knowing what I know about the LearnedLeague tendencies of one of our players today, I just hope today isn't an instructive lesson on "always bet for the scores and only use the category to choose between equally strategically viable wagers, because you never know if Final Jeopardy is going to be a clue you missed last week in your worst category."
